FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – An award-winning middle school teacher is indicted on child pornography charges.

The enticement charge, which was announced Monday, carries 10 years to live and the production charge carries 15 years, according to Coleman.

According to the Frankfort State Journal newspaper, Thompson is the former Franklin County Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year.

According to the State Journal, Thompson taught eighth grade math at Bondurant Middle School from 2011 to 2018. He worked at West Hardin Middle School near Elizabethtown until he was fired in April after being arrested on state child pornography charges.

The teacher was snared when Radcliff Police sought help from other agencies for digital forensics work involving 33-year-old Matthew Alexander Lyons, of Elizabethtown who was eventually charged with more than 100 counts of possession and producing child pornography and related offenses.

That investigation linked Thompson with Lyons through communications in 2018, according to the State Journal, which also reported Thompson asked one of his former male middle school students to send a photo of sexually explicit images and the student complied.

Thompson is free from the Larue County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
