Fayette Mall sets curfew for youth under 18

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fayette Mall announced a plan to enforce a curfew for shoppers under 18 years old on Friday and Saturday nights.

The plan is called the Youth Escort Policy, or YEP. It says the plan is intended to curtail the rising number of unsupervised youths hanging out at Fayette Mall and related disturbances.

“In addition, we are announcing the installation of a state-of-the-art camera system that monitors both the interior and exterior of the shopping center.  This system has both on and off-site monitoring capabilities and will be an invaluable tool for our security team and law enforcement,” says Myron Worley, general manager of Fayette Mall.

Officials say the new policy will go into effect Friday, March 20 and will require all mall visitors under 18 years of age to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is 21 years of age or older on Friday and Saturday nights after 4:00 p.m.

The mall says kids under the age of 18 can still work during these times and will be given identification.

Officials say the policy can also be implemented at any other day and time at the discretion of management when it is deemed necessary.
