MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – One person is dead following a late-night house fire in Mercer County.
Mercer County Coroner Chuck Bugg says the fire broke out around 10 p.m. at the home on Johnson Road in Harrodsburg.
He says his office was called around 11 p.m. when the body was discovered.
According to Bugg, the victim was found near the back of the home on a couch. He says the body was burned beyond recognition and was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for a positive identification.
He believes the person likely died from smoke inhalation.
The State Fire Marshal was called to the scene.
There is no word yet on what may have caused the fire.
