Whitley City man charged in death of two-year old

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Fayette County coroner on Wednesday released the name and cause of death for a two-year old girl investigators say was assaulted by a man who was caring for her.

The coroner identified the toddler as Kimber Collins, who was just two months shy of her third birthday.  The coroner says the toddler died of blunt force trauma.

Collins was initially taken to a hospital in Somerset on August 25, then transferred to U.K. Hospital in Lexington where she died from her injuries August 27, according to Kentucky State Police.

27-year old Michael Huff, of Whitley City, is charged with the little girl’s death, according to KSP.

WHITLEY CITY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Whitley City man has been charged in connection to the death of a two-year old girl, according to Kentucky State Police.

27-year old Michael Huff was arrested Tuesday, the same day the toddler died from her injuries at U.K. Hospital in Lexington, according to KSP.

Investigators say the child was in the care of Huff on Sunday, August 25, 2019, when she suffered life-threatening injuries.

KSP says the little girl was first taken from McCreary County to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset and then transferred to U.K. Hospital.

Investigators say Huff was charged with Assault 1st Degree.  He was taken to the Leslie County Detention Center.

Kentucky State Police continue to investigate.
