LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- This Valentine’s day love is in the sandwiches at a Subway in Paris.
Employees there aren’t celebrating with a fancy dinner, but with each other as if everyone in the restaurant is family because everyone there is like family.
Barbara and Rex Cecil have worked at the franchise for more than 30 years combined.
They’re not just teammates at work, but also in life. They’ve been married for about 62 years.
“A lot of love is what it is. That’s what’s kept us together,” Cecil said.
They got married in 1957, before Subway was even founded, at just 19 and 14-years-old.
The following decades were hard. Both fought cancer and so did their kids
Before all that, though, their youngest son died, killed in a head on crash with a coal truck at just 20-years-old.
“You can lose anybody in your family, but when you lose one of your kids you never get over it,” Rex Cecil said.
They survived all of that to end up working at the little store in Paris for a man who shares that son’s name.
“Love every minute of it,” Rex said.
The Cecils don’t have to work at Subway, but this is about a lot more than making sandwiches.
Customers and co-workers are family. Working at Subway gives them a way to share their love with their whole community.
