BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) – A Western Kentucky University student charged in the fatal weekend shooting of another student has entered a not guilty plea.

The Bowling Green Daily News reports 21-year-old Peter G. Gall made his first court appearance Tuesday, arraigned in Warren District Court on a count of second-degree manslaughter in the death of 21-year-old Kenneth A. Davis, of Corbin.

According to an arrest citation, Gall reported the shooting early Sunday. The citation said an investigation determined Gall “wantonly caused the death of the victim,” and listed alcohol as a factor.

Gall’s attorney, Alan Simpson of Bowling Green, called it an accidental shooting and said the death occurred as the result of horseplay.

Warren District Judge Brent Potter denied a request to modify Gall’s $100,000 cash bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
