LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)-Whitaker Bank Ballpark was filled with a sea of red today for “CPR and AED Awareness Week.”
The special event was sponsored by the American Heart Association and “Go Red For Women” to raise awareness about cardiac arrest, the leading cause of death in the nation.
Heart disease survivor Bobbi Williams threw out the first pitch.
She says, “When I was first told to throw out the first pitch I was like i can’t do that, can’t do that. And I feel like the heart event has made me more able to do things like this and get out of my comfort zone to make other people more aware.”
CPR demonstrations and health screenings were available during the game. It’s a good skill to have. According to the American Heart Association if CPR is performed on a cardiac arrest victim immediately it can double or triple a victim’s chances of survival.
