LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Drivers in the Alumni Drive area between Tates Creek and Nicholasville Road should prepare to re-route their morning commutes starting Sunday.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday for a five million dollar re-alignment and reconstruction project.  The work is supposed to help control traffic, and make Alumni Drive more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly.  The new plans include roundabouts at College Way and University Drive, as well as new entrances to the Commonwealth Stadium blue lot and the athletic facilities.

Alumni Drive will be closed beginning Sunday, May 10, with traffic being re-routed through the immediate area. Access to the Arboretum will be maintained at all times via Tates Creek Road. The Lexington Senior Center will be accessible from Nicholasville Road. Additionally, the other occupied buildings on Alumni Drive – a child care center and UK graduate housing – will be accessible throughout the project.
