Cruel punishment and physical injury.
Those were just a couple of ways court documents described what a Lexington daycare owner was accused of doing to a child in her care.
The documents showed, Sevola Garland Marks, 63, owner of ‘Children’s Treehouse of Knowledge’ was arrested Wednesday and charged with third degree criminal abuse of a child 12 or under.
Marks was accused of abusing the child last month.
Court documents said she caused a friction burn on the young boy’s arm, bent his fingers back to cause pain and pulled his arms back across his chest to restrict his breathing.
There was reportedly an adult witness to the alleged abuse.
Court documents showed that person had cell-phone video of Marks allegedly abusing the boy who was later interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass in Lexington.
Court documents showed the boy reported he wasn’t the only child in the daycare subjected to those types of punishments.
Documents stated Marks was interviewed and denied any wrongdoing and when she watched the cell phone video provided by the reported witness, she said it wasn’t a big deal.
Marks was scheduled to be in court to answer to the charge on Thursday.
